Local action to recreate a safe climate
Save the Planet in conjunction with its partner, the Research and Strategy for Transition Initiation Inc (RSTI), has developed a community-focused plan to build support and implement a Climate Emergency Response at the community level.
The core of the campaign is the development of Climate Emergency Plans. These plans describe both what a Climate Emergency Response might look like for a given municipality, and how to go about building support for a Climate Emergency Response. Once the plans have been developed to a significant point, we will start the process of building community support, including driving the implementation of key local initiatives.
The concept of the Community Climate Emergency Plans was developed by Philip Sutton from RSTI.

Local Government CAN MAKE A DIFFERANCE
What role can local government play in stopping global warming?
1. Leading by example: ensuring council operations are zero emission
2. Encouraging people to adopt a zero emission lifestyle
3. Build zero or negative emission micro-grids to power the local community
4. Building community resilience against future global warming
5. Build local food production and distribution
6. Build excellent walking and cycling infrastructure
7. Encourage the use of electric vehicles
8. Lobby for increased electrified rail transport
9. Turn organic waste into stable bio-char thus removing excess emissions from the atmosphere.
